ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
Taro iiyama was born in Tokyo, Japan, and has been a permanent resident in Australia since 2004.
Taro is a sculptor, jeweller and landscape designer living in Wangaratta, Victoria. He has been trained as a Landscape designer and completed numerous commissions. He has an Advanced Diploma of Engineering Technology and Diploma of Visual Arts. Taro has received several awards, completed a number of public and private commissions, solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions in the last 15 years. In 2018, he was selected for Yarra Valley Arts / Yering Station Sculpture Award, Deakin University Contemporary Small Sculpture Award, and awarded at Swanpool Recycled Sculpture Award.
Taro’s recent works primarily explore environmental issues, and the artist’s desire to collaborate with nature. His choice of materials reflects his deep concerns for the consequences of our consumerist society. He is interested in expanding the possibilities of making objects that may raise environmental awareness from common, mundane and recycled materials.
